editing and sound design

Ander and I are working on a video essay project about Sean Baker’s Anora. We didn’t like it, and we will be explaining why. I don’t want to share too much about the content.

I have been editing using Davinci Resolve, and I do like it so far. Had to get used to the different shortcut keys, and I know I can customize them, but I will get to that eventually.

I realize when I’m learning to do new things, I tend to not automatically choose to look things up. I like to kind of just play with the software and mess with it, knowing I can just undo or start over at the click of a button. I’ve at least gotten efficiently fast at cutting silences. I also messed around with some spots where “I” at the beginning of sentences was too quiet, taking “I”‘s from previous lines and pasting them in the gaps. It worked pretty well!

I am remembering some things I learned from my sound design and editing classes at UCF. I don’t regret taking those, I did learn some valuable things, although if I decide to go back to school it most likely won’t be for film. I do think I can learn these things on my own at my own pace and become successful at production.
