i was able to fix two parts of my 2007 honda civic today that i’ve been meaning to for a while. my auxilary port stopped working months ago. i figured out the issue pretty quickly by doin’ a little internet search. for some reason, the manufacturers decided to put a switch in the port that disables the stereo system from switching to AUX when there is no cable plugged in. the problem is when the switch breaks it defaults to no cable being plugged in, which basically makes it impossible to switch to AUX on your stereo even when you have a perfectly good cable plugged into a perfectly good port.

for a while, i was able to jam the cable in at just the right angle for it to work; but after a while it failed completely. turns out, you can pull the whole port out, use a multimeter on continuous to see which prongs are for the sound and which are for the switch, and then solder the according solders spots (i don’t know what they’re called) together to keep it continuously on. so now your car thinks there is ALWAYS a cable plugged in, and you can switch to AUX on your stereo system whenever the fuck you want!

the second car fix was less interesting. my middle console hinge broke so it wouldn’t stay closed. i had ordered the parts to fix it forever ago, and attempted to; but didn’t have the right fancy star lookin screwdriver to get the plastic cover off. i also didn’t have a multimeter, but i want one now. luckily my parents house comes fully equipped with almost any tool i may need, including this screwdriver (which i still don’t know the name of). anyway, it was satisfying; it’s like i have a new car.
